Scott Rutzmoser has supported Monica Najar's research by mapping the founding date and approximate location of over six hundred Baptist churches across the southeastern United States. The video below illustrates the rapid expansion of Baptist churches using 5 year intervals from 1755-1815. Additionally, the historic county boundaries have been included on the map. The county boundaries help illustrate how rapidly county governance was changing over this same period.
Professor's Najar's research and data are not yet published but she does have plans to create a publicly accessible web map to allow users to interactively explore the data.
For more information about this project please contact Professor Najar.
If you have interest in geospatial technologies at Lehigh and would like to know more about how we can help support your project please contact Scott Rutzmoser (scr211).
